Kids Change Program

Even small change from small kids is a big help.

September 2005 was the kick-off date for our Kids Change program in three Charleston area schools which ran through Thanksgiving. The schools were Pepperhill, Hursey and E.B. Ellington. The program was taught by the guidance counselors in their respective schools. Each week the children were taught a different lesson plan based on the core values of character such as kindness, respect, and thoughtfulness, particularly as it is shown to other children who may look different.

Kids Change serves the dual purpose of teaching children the value of the dollar and the possibility of changing another child's life with their help. Children are learning that they too can give back to their community. Each class of kindergarten and first graders collected change to help raise money for another child's care.

The winning class in each grade received a special lunch from our sponsor. Interest in this program, though starting locally, has already been shown in other states. The Hemangioma Treatment Foundation would like to take this program national. The program would measure and adhere to all standard requirements of each school district.

If you are a parent or teacher and would like to get involved, please write to our Executive Director, Jane Milner, to discuss your ideas in more detail. Just email: KidsChange@HemangiomaTreatment.org. hit counter javascript
