Leadership

Marcelo Hochman, MD FACS is the Founder and Medical Director of The Hemangioma Treatment Foundation.  Additionally, he is the director of the Hemangioma International Treatment Center  (www.BirthmarkTreatment.org) a Center of Excellence for the treatment of hemangiomas and other vascular birthmarks and The Facial Surgery Center (www.FacialSurgeryCenter.com) , both private practices headquartered in Charleston, SC.

Dr. Hochman has extensive experience in the management of vascular birthmarks and is double board certified in Head/Neck Surgery and Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He has continuously been listed in "The Best Doctors in America" and recently listed in "America's Top Surgeons" in facial plastic surgery.

Dr. Hochman recently received  the coveted  "Order of The Palmetto" from South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford which is the highest honor that can be bestowed on an individual by the state for outstanding service. He is the editor/author of many publications including the Facial Plastic Surgery Clinics of North America's "Vascular Birthmarks of the Head and Neck" and Journal of the American Medical Association's Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery, "Evolving Trends in the Treatment of Vascular Birthmarks".

The doctor has been featured twice on "The Discovery Channel" on its show, "Surgery: Before and After". He is a frequent contributor to the medical literature, and has been quoted/interviewed in Parents magazine, ePregnancy magazine, and Cosmetic Surgery Times as well as local, regional and national media outlets as a recognized expert on vascular birthmarks.

He has recently been awarded the prestigious annual American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) Community Service Award at the convention in Chicago. The Award is presented each year to the doctor who has distinguished him/herself by “making possible free medical service to the poor in his community.” Dr. Hochman has established himself as one of the world’s leading doctors dealing with hemangioma. Patients from all over the United States and from many different countries around the world come to his clinic in Charleston, which is increasingly recognized as the destination point for parents seeking reassurances and solutions to the problems of vascular birthmarks with their children, both physical and emotional.

Under Dr Hochman's direction, the Foundation's team of doctors and his private practices (Hemangioma International Treatment Center; ww.BirthmarkTreatment.com and The Facial Surgery Center;  www.FacialSurgeryCenter.com)  have treated several hundred patients from the United States, Costa Rica, Peru, Russia, Mexico, Cypress, Turkey, and Hong Kong.  Many of these children could either not afford the treatments or did not have access to care in their communities. The referrals are self-made by parents seeking help for their children or through the medical community. He recently assisted in launching the Vascular Birthmarks Program Phillipines in conjuction with the Rotary Club of Makati West.

In the few short years since its creation, The Hemangioma Treatment Foundation has enjoyed tremendous success and is increasingly being recognized at the local, national and international level for its work with children.  There is no other organization in the world dedicated exclusively to providing charitable treatment to children with vascular birthmarks.
